Moving To UK

Congratulations on receiving your Tier 5 visa! The visa will show you Valid from and Valid to dates, the visa will be valid for only approximately a month. Don't worry its just an entry visa you will need to collect your on visa on arrival on the date, from the Post Office or the address, mentioned in the letter that you will receive with visa. After the getting the visa you need to inform the Trust, the Hospital you will be working and CPSP. You will need to tell them when you intend to to travel and with whom you intend to travel. If your Hospital is providing accommodation
they need to know whether you will be living with your family so they can arrange accordingly. For how long the accommodation is provided that again depends 2 weeks? 1 month? (we were provided 1 month) It's just to give you some support in a new country so you don't have to spend a lot of money on hotels. Remember that you can not travel before the start date mention on your visa, your ticket must not show the travel date before the visa date. Things you must have sorted before leaving for UK.
  • GMC ID Check: If your GMC ID check date is before the visa date you need to rebook your interview. Don't worry you can rebook multiple times. But remember you can not start work unless you are fully registered with GMC. So try to get a date for it that is as near to your arrival date as possible or directly land in London or Manchester get your GMC and then head to your Hospital.
  • Meeting with President: Before leaving for UK the CPSP president might have a chat with you to give bits and pieces of advice this could be an opportunity for you to ask your final queries. But remember it's the president so you need to be polite mainly you should be obliged and of course excited about the opportunity provided.
  • Booking tickets: Please do not book tickets before receiving your visa. Once you have the visa CPSP can also help you in the booking tickets, their agents of can help you get slightly discounted tickets.
  • License: If you plan to to drive in UK without any restrictions for 1 year then you need an International Driving Permit made from Pakistan.
  • Accommodation: Before you leave make sure you have booked a place to stay if your Hospital isn't providing you one. If you are being provided double check for how long and whether it's single or for family.
  • Getting to your accommodation: You need to have sorted how will you be reaching your destination from airport. There are multiple taxi, car services which you can pre book online for your peace of mind or if you have a lot of luggage. I love this website you can basically put any destination into it and it will show you multiple ways to get their with along with how much will it take.
  • Documents: Keep all your original documents and certificates as you might need them in UK. You also need to keep safe the letter that you will get with your visa, it needs to be submitted to get your BRP (Bio-metric Residence Permit) this will be your personal UK ID card which will double as as your visa.
  • GBP: You will definitely need those. At least £600-£800. If you will be booking hotels, travelling in uber, taxis and eating fancy you might need more. So get your rupees converted. If possible bring your debit and credit cards from Pakistan they are dead helpful if you need to do online transactions. But remember the exchange rates are crazy.

The procedure at the Pakistani airport is pretty straightforward. You need to tell them that you are going on a Scholarship program on not for a job because then you will need a NICOP and a protector stamp which is a requirement for all Pakistani who go for employment abroad. Once when you reach UK at the airport you will join the queue at immigration for your entry in UK. I was all prepared to give a long interview explaining why I am here while the immigration officer looking at me like I am definitely up to something illegal (believe me that's what happens when a male step into America with a green Pakistani passport with Islam stated as your religion) but surprisingly it turned out to be a pretty simple and straightforward process with a couple of questions about my profession and where will I be working. That's it and I was stamped for an entry along with my wife without further questioning. Once you have collected your luggage you need a ride to get to the place you will be staying. You need to keep cash in hand since you will be need it a lot for your daily expenses. Congratulations! You have finally reached UK! Settle in as their loads of stuff get sorted before you begin.
