GMC ID CHECK

Once you reach UK the 1st and foremost thing that you need to sort out is your GMC ID check. It is the most important thing to do, you might as well be asked to go back if there are issues with it. Make sure you have all the documents that they asked you to bring, they must original not photocopied or not scanned. I repeat not scanned. They check for the ink imprint, please do not

try to fake any documents it could lead to severe consequences if they were to find out. They do check for authenticity of the documents, they have access to all the databases and they may even send documents for further verification to the original creator of the document be that an organization or a single person. Some of the mandatory documents asked from everyone are
  • PMQ (Primary Medical Qualification)
  • Original Passport
  • Original Certificate of Good Standing
  • Other specific documents

Reach the offices of GMC Manchester or London at least 15 minutes before the interview time. Make sure you have sorted out how you will be getting there. If it's Manchester and you are coming via train you will get off at Manchester Piccadilly Station or Victoria Station from their you can either walk to GMC office or take the free Metro Shuttle 1 or 2. If it is London then you need to get off at Euston Station and walk to the GMC office. Remember Google Maps is you're best friend. Avoid taxis in London they can be very expensive. On reaching the office inform at the reception that you have come in for the ID check they will guide you to the GMC office. At GMC desk show them your ID check email or your GMC ID number and your name they will confirm it in their register. They will give you a visitor pass and ask you to have a seat. Do ask for the Free Wi-Fi password you can run errands or plan your route while you are waiting. Once they are ready for you they will call you out by your Surname. You should get used to being calling by your surname because that's how they address you and how you should introduce yourself, sign your notes etc. The advisor will lead you to their office where they will open up your case application and will ask for those documents mentioned in the email. They will take those documents and step out with them for verification. They should be back with them in around 10-15 minutes and if you are lucky then your application will be approved and you will get your Full GMC registration there and then. If not they may ask for further verification of a document or they might want to contact the issuer of the document for verification. I had an issue with one of my documents which was scanned since it was a reference form filled out by a consultant in US and he didn't have an official email address. So they asked him to fax GMC and verify that he filled the reference form which turned out to be a great hassle. Thankfully the consultant was extremely cooperative.
An advice here would be if you have worked at place and you think it will be a hard time for you prove GMC that it was legit then please omit that experience while filling you GMC application. If you can not then make sure you have valid original documents proving that you worked there with exact dates mentioned, whether it was clinical or non clinical. And make sure the GMC is able to reach the issuer of the document and they must have a workplace email id. Email from gmail, yahoo, Hotmail are not accepted by GMC.
Good luck!
